Screenwriter

Doro Nguyen is a screenwriter, sketch comedy writer, and comedic actor.

  • Her first pilot, Disoriented, was co-written with her friend, Arya Govil. It advanced to Second Round in the Comedy Teleplay Pilot category for Austin Film Festival in 2018.

  • Her 30-min comedy pilot, Illegal, was a Top Three Television Diversity Category Finalist in the 2019 Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Contest and a Top Ten 30-min Teleplay Finalist for the Cinequest Screenwriting Competition.

  • Her 1-hr drama pilot, Nice Restaurant, made Top 25 in the Save The Cat Screenplay Competition and is the Winner of the ScreenCraft Drama Competition 2022.

  • Her Short Screenplay, Pistachio, was a Winner in the WeScreenplay Shorts Competition 2023.

Doro’s first language is Cantonese. She is first-generation half Chinese/half Vietnamese and a byproduct of a green card marriage.

Two Asian American women living in New York City lean on each other as their modern, feminist attitude clashes with their immigrant parents’ worldview.

Illegal

When Emily is offered a large sum of money to marry a stranger’s son, she must keep his illegal status and their deal a secret from everyone or she'll lose the money and her boyfriend.

Pistachio

When Shu finds out her daughter is going to therapy, she takes it personally and shuts herself off from her. She has to learn to open her heart to her or risk losing her daughter.

Nice Restaurant

A young woman is smuggled from Hong Kong to New York in 1985 by her brother, only to find out she has to run a successful restaurant as a Triad front if she wants to keep them both alive.

Cured

When Eva decides to make her comeback at a New Year’s Eve party, she fails and ends up at a psych ward right when she’s offered the deal of a lifetime.
